| Mr David Edwards | ECITB |
| Mr Jock Simpson | NJCECI |
| Mr Nigel Spencer | Secretary - ECITB |
| Miss Gill Lea | ACE Project Manager- ECITB |
The ACE ISG started with a number of objectives; many of which have been met, others are ongoing:
- Controlled implementation of the system for all trades based on the new standards and qualifications. The controlled rollout will assist the key locations with implementation and gather data on resources required and costs involved.
- Implementation of the Communications Plan, which will direct activity and promotion of ACE. This will include the development of a promotional video, web site, ACE brochures, posters and flyers and national and regional launches of the ACE initiative.
- Identification and investigation of the various funding streams available to the Engineering Construction Industry in order to determine viable funding mechanisms that meet the needs of all companies in the sector. If possible this should encapsulate a National Funding Model for ACE.
- The ISG will develop a registration process for the new ACE competence based Skills Database system, identifying the different type of cards necessary and the entry requirements. These recommendations will be passed to the Standing Reference Group for consideration and adoption.
- Identify and implement a system whereby craftspersons who are unemployed can have access to assessment in order to have their competence validated against the appropriate National Occupational Standards and be certificated accordingly. The principles of the system would be in place by the launch of ACE and ongoing thereafter.
- The ISG will establish an infrastructure to support the implementation of the ACE initiative, which will include a National Co-ordinator, Regional Marketing and Communication Groups, the ECITB Awarding Body and the NJC. A detailed Project Plan will also be developed to monitor the progress and performance of each element of the initiative.
- Following the launch of the ACE initiative for the initial agreed trades, work will commence on identifying further trades for implementation and a plan for their introduction will be developed. This will include marketing and communication activities and approved centre capacity.
- The ISG will discuss with the CCNSG the relationship between the ACE Card and the Safety Passport and make recommendations for affiliation and/or recognition.
These objectives will be achieved through the following methodology.
The Industry Steering Group will continue its role, as per its Terms of Reference. It will meet monthly to oversee progress against each of the objectives and, where appropriate, carry out certain developmental work itself. It will also, where necessary, make representation to Government agencies and departments for funding or other support.
The ISG will be supported by a number of regional groups whose prime objective will be to promote and market the ACE system to individuals, contractors and clients alike.
